ANOTHER PEEK AT THE PORK by C.B. FORGOTSTON - Forgotston.com (excerpt)
The Crack Mullet Research Staff has now taken a look into the other State Boudin Plant. This time it is the Capital Outlay Budget (HB 2, 2007 R.S.) HB 2 has already passed the House and is currently in the Senate Finance Committee pending further larding up.
Below is what was found in the portion of the Capital Budget that funds projects that are NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STATE.
The spending is listed in two categories: 1) What appears to be non-government units 2) Local government units by parish.
Borrowing money
Most of these projects are not only funded with your tax dollars, but money is also being borrowed by the state through General Obligation Bonds that must be repaid over decades with interest. This at a time when the state has approaching $4 BILLION in unencumbered funds.
Priorities
Perhaps all these expenditures are worthy projects. However, as you read through them keep in mind that it is YOUR tax dollars that are going to fund projects.
Do these expenditures reflect your priorities or would you prefer a state tax reduction? If you prefer a tax reduction contact your leges and let them know.
