Metro Council runoffs, court seats on ballot
by Steven Ward - Advocate (excerpt)

Voters in East Baton Rouge Parish go to the polls Saturday to decide two Metro Council runoff races, a city court judgeship, two crime prevention district proposals and, with voters of suburban parishes, will decide become the newest member of the Louisiana Supreme Court. Voters in Acadiana will decide the hotly contested 3rd Congressional district race pitting two incumbents — Republicans Charles Boustany Jr., of Lafayette, and Jeff Landry, of New Iberia — who were thrown into the same district after reapportionment.

In East Baton Rouge Parish, officials with the Registrar of Voters Office are expecting a modest turnout for Saturday’s election. “Turnout will only be around 17 to 18 percent,” said Priscilla Arceneaux, confidential assistant to Registrar of Voters Elaine Lamb.

Turnout in the Nov. 6 election, which featured the presidential race and the city-parish mayoral battle, was more than 70 percent in East Baton Rouge, Arceneaux said.
