Louisiana voters to visit polls Saturday, light turnout expected
by Helen Freund - Times-Picayune (excerpt)

Voters in St. Tammany, St. Bernard and Orleans parishes are heading to the polls Saturday to cast their ballots in several runoffs, although a low turnout is expected. With last month's presidential election already a distant memory and no high-profile race to attract keen interest among a broad swath of voters, less than a quarter of the state's registered voters are expected to visit the polls on Saturday. "We're expecting around a 20 to 25 percent voter turnout, which is a lot less than during the Nov. 6 Presidential elections," said Meg Casper, press secretary for Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler. Voter turnout for the Nov. 6 election was around 67 percent, Casper said.
