Democrats target Fleming
by Deborah Barfield Berry - The Town Talk (excerpt)

WASHINGTON -- Rep. John Fleming has raised more than $1.3 million for his re-election bid in northwest Louisiana, even though no one has stepped up to challenge him. National Democrats are targeting the 4th District seat -- the only Republican seat in Louisiana they consider winnable. But with only a month until the filing deadline, political experts say chances are slim a Democrat will emerge to challenge the well-financed Fleming in the mostly Republican district.

"He has no opponent who can raise any money," said Bernie Pinsonat, a pollster and political consultant based in Baton Rouge. "You've got to have someone who could win. You also have to have a lot of money. Here we are sitting here in mid-July and they don't have a candidate."

Louisiana Democratic Party officials did not return repeated calls and emails. Rep. Cedric Richmond, who represents the 2nd District, is the House delegation's lone Democrat.
