Jindal himself stepped back back memory lane, being introduced by former Gov. Mike Foster, who named Jindal to head a state department at age 24. But also in a grace note, the governor paid public tribute to former Gov. Kathleen Blanco, who defeated Jindal in the 2003 election.

He spoke warmly of her hard work and dedication through the trials of hurricanes Katrina and Rita that struck in 2005.

This tone of positive thoughts and an earnestness that the state’s diverse political factions work together was a great beginning. Congratulations to Jindal and the others sworn in Monday. May they make the most of it over the next four years.
