3 College Boards' Merger Opposed
Two nonprofit governmental interest groups in Louisiana are opposing a controversial recommendation to consolidate the state higher education management boards.
The biggest objection in the complaint is that the Louisiana Postsecondary Education Review Commission recommendation could abolish the Louisiana Board of Regents, which is the stateís higher education coordinating and policymaking body. Both the governmental research group Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana and the governmental lobbying body Council for a Better Louisiana have issued new reports opposing shuttering the Regents.
The commission, which finalized its work early this month, recommended consolidating the LSU, Southern University and University of Louisiana systemís management boards with the Regents into a single oversight and management board for universities.
