PAR pushes new funding to meet highway needs

The state faces a $14 billion backlog of road and bridge needs amid predictions of declining state revenue. Efforts to find a long-term funding solution have failed. The PAR report says that, to generate another $650 million per year for state highways, a “major share” of the new funding should come from higher gasoline and motor fuels taxes, auto licenses and truck registration fees. PAR did not say how much those increases should be.
