Monroe Motor Speedway and NASCAR officials announced Thursday the new track has been sanctioned by NASCAR and will join the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. The track, which opened last May, becomes the only racetrack in the state sanctioned by NASCAR.
The announcement was made during a news conference at Monroe City Hall. The track's racing season starts March 7.
"This is NASCAR's grassroots: local Saturday night racing," said George Silbermann, NASCAR's managing director of racing operations. "For us, this is really the foundation of what NASCAR is all about."
