State Sen. Francis Thompson said Thursday he has secured a commitment from the governor's office and the Department of Corrections that the jobs of 151 people employed at a rehabilitation center in Tallulah will be preserved.
Thompson provided a letter from corrections Secretary James LeBlanc confirming the state will keep the Steve Hoyle Rehabilitation Center open until it's sold to a private company and that any sales agreement will require the new owner to retain employees who want to stay.
In his letter to Thompson, LeBlanc wrote, “We recognize and appreciate the impact the (Hoyle Center) jobs have on the local area and understand the critical importance of job retention for those affected.”
