East Baton Rouge Parish public school leaders would be prohibited from reshuffling key test scores under a policy endorsed Tuesday by a state education panel.
EBR school leaders want scores for students who attend seven magnet schools to be returned to neighborhood schools they otherwise would have attended. But Louisiana’s School and District Accountability Commission approved a policy that would require student test scores to remain in schools where students spend a majority of their school year.
The issue now returns to the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, which asked the commission to tackle the controversial topic. BESE will make the final decision. Linda Johnson of Plaquemine, a member of both the state board and the commission, said she expects the state board to back the commission’s recommendation. The 11-member state board meets next week.
