The auto bail out was beaten back in the US Senate. Senator David Vitter stood out as one who really opposed the bail out on principle. Vitter took a stand early and stayed the course on even when the heat was turned up. There was certainly pressure to support the bail out. Vitter did not bow down or ease back in his constant scrutiny and protection of tax dollars.
Senator Vitter deserves to be noted for helping beat back the growing explosion of bail out mania. This may turn out to be a watershed moment or may not. It is definitely a start. He listened carefully to his state's voters. He did what the voters of Louisiana wanted and fought the bogus bail outs. He worked for the people.
We applaud Senator Vitter for his intellectual arguments and fact-based approach to fighting the money grab by UAW and others in this union bail out.
Senator Vitter has become a standard bearer for fiscal conservatives in regard to opposing the money grab by the liberals. Senator Vitter did what he was hired to do -- vote the way his state wanted him to vote and protect the tax payers. This is how it is supposed to work. Now let the restructuring begin.
And Senator Vitter deserves some credit here.
COMMENTARY: Let's not forget that Senator Landrieu voted for the bailout. Vitter is clearly our only 'firewall' in the U.S. Senate, our last line of defense.
