The United States is getting a young president with the election of Barack Obama, and Obama can be expected to speak in ways that reflect his generation.
We were reminded of this by Obama’s promise to try to “reboot America’s image” among Muslims after he takes office.
Rebooting, the practice of restarting computers, is often used as a way to clarify technical glitches in a computer’s operation. Many of us are heartened by the newfound clarity of a computer’s brain after it’s restarted in this way. Perhaps with President-elect Obama’s help, “rebooting” will replace “starting with a clean slate” as the new expression for beginning something anew.
COMMENTARY: Obama appears to be 'rebooting' all of the positions he took while running for President. Some would call it 'waffling', cynics would call it outright 'lying' to the American people. 'Reboot' must be his latest name for 'Change!'
