LAFAYETTE — U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany Jr. has called a meeting next week to coordinate local and state priorities while Congress prepares to craft the 2009 federal highway spending bill.
Local officials might also have an interest in picking Boustany’s thoughts about a possible federal economic stimulus package that would focus on roads and other infrastructure projects that are ready for construction.
“In light of the talk that we have been hearing, what’s his viewpoint on the specifics,” said Bill Fontenot, the Lafayette-area administrator for the state Department of Transportation and Development. Fontenot said higher ups at the state DOTD have already asked him to compile a list of local projects that are ready for construction in the event of an infrastructure stimulus package.
