State Needs Jindal's Leadership by JIM BEAM - The American Press (excerpt)
Is Gov. Bobby Jindal seeking national exposure in hopes of making a future run for the presidency? Or is his newfound praise from Republican Party members across the country a result of his early successes as governor?
The odds are it’s a combination of both, but there are those who think the governor needs to concentrate more on the problems in his home state. They have been particularly critical of his recent trip to the state of Iowa to speak to GOP conservatives.
A Lafayette attorney in a letter to The (Baton Rouge) Advocate newspaper said Jindal “should realize that the road to the White House runs through Louisiana, not Iowa.”
James Gill, a columnist for New Orleans’ Times-Picayune, said, “There is, after all, a long list of problems awaiting him right here. Not only is the state he governs slipping inexorably into the Gulf of Mexico, but his constituents are fleeing what is left of it in droves ... .”
Government watchdog C.B. Forgotston has been extremely critical of Jindal’s activities.
“As Bobby Jindal travels around the country promoting himself for higher political office, I fear that he may forget a few items that need addressing in La.,” Forgotston said. “After all, Bobby’s day job is still being governor of our state.”
