Jindal Discusses 'New' State At Town Hall Meeting by Jodi Belgard - The Town Talk (excerpt)
WOODWORTH -- Gov. Bobby Jindal was in Woodworth on Wednesday for another stop in a series of Town Hall meetings he's conducted since taking office. Jindal touched on topics including health care, education, sex offender laws and the economy.
"We're not immune from it," Jindal said of the national economic crisis, "but we're better positioned than other states because of the steps we've already taken." Those steps include passing bills to help companies, namely a tax cut to companies purchasing new equipment.
Jindal took a commonsense approach when speaking to the crowd, telling both tear-jerking and heart-warming stories. "I think it's wonderful, that he hits the small, rural towns," said Woodworth resident Clifton Fontenot, whose wife, Gwen, chatted with the governor about his stance on discipline in the school system.
Jindal said he is working on several initiatives to reform public education, including a Teachers' Bill of Rights that would allow teachers to take disciplinary action without fear of being sued.
