Fifth District U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander said he opposes a bailout for U.S. automakers that Congress may consider in its lame-duck session and that the companies should be allowed to go into bankruptcy.
"I won't support (the bailout) if it's presented," said Alexander, R-Quitman.
When asked if General Motors, Chrysler and Ford should be allowed to fail, Alexander said it could be necessary.
"If they need to go into Chapter 11 and reorganize, then so be it," Alexander said.
The congressman said he's not sure what else to expect from the lame-duck session of Congress that started this week.
