Gun Dealers See Boost In Sales Since Obama's Election

While campaigning, Barack Obama promised to put money back in the pockets of Americans suffering in a sagging economy, and there's at least one group that's benefiting financially even before the president-elect is sworn in -- gun dealers.

Since Obama triumphed over Sen. John McCain in the Nov. 4 presidential race, gun enthusiasts have been stocking up on firearms, and those who make a living selling weapons have been raking in cash.

Sales of guns of every shape and size have exploded the past two weeks, said Jean Hutchinson, co-owner of Hutchinson's Firearms and Accessories in Tioga.

"We have been swamped every day. People have been coming in to buy AR-15s, AK-47s, and we have been selling lots of handguns," she said.

Hutchinson said there is no secret why the gun business is booming.

"Obama sells," she said.

Some have expressed fears that Obama's administration with the help of a Democrat-dominated Congress will usher in tough, new gun laws. During the presidential campaign, the National Rifle Association distributed literature saying Obama would be the most anti-gun president in American history.
