Nearly a week after winning the presidential election, Barack Obama is still making history.

The Times parking lot was full before 8 a.m. Monday morning with people who had come early to make sure they could get an extra copy — or 10 — of Wednesday’s newspaper, so they could own a piece of history.

For the second time, The Times printed additional copies, which featured president-elect Barack Obama’s historic win in last week’s presidential election.

Of the 5,500 copies printed for Monday, 1,500 were available at The Times’ office, virtually selling out by noon. The remaining 4,000 copies were sent out to retailers.

This is in addition to the extra copies that were printed on Wednesday and the commemorative poster that was printed and placed in Saturday’s newspaper. These editions sold out also.

Kevin Welsh, the circulation operations manager for The Times, believes by the end of this week, The Times will possibly have the highest increase of sales in the company.

“That potentially makes this the biggest selling story of all time,” he said
