Washington Watch: (What Will Happen To Cazayoux?)

The political posters for Democratic U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana probably should have contained a picture of Alfred E. Neuman, the mascot for MAD magazine who is known for his trademark line: “What? Me worry?”

Four days before the election, Landrieu was in Washington celebrating Halloween with her daughter. Just weeks before the election, she was photographed shopping in a D.C. supermarket, a new example of political absurdity in the age of cell phones that can take pictures.

In the Louisiana 6th Congressional District race, the expected outcome came to fruition when former Democrat Michael Jackson ran as a “no party” candidate and siphoned off 12 percent of the vote from former U.S. Rep. Don Cazayoux, D-New Roads, who ended up losing to Republican state Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-Baton Rouge. It will be interesting to see what becomes of the candidates who lost their elections. Kennedy remains state treasurer. McCain will likely head back to the U.S. Senate. The nation has likely not heard the last of Sarah Palin. What will happen to Cazayoux remains to be seen.
