Story Archives: Opponents Ignored In Dueling TV Ads

Opponents Ignored In Dueling TV Ads
by Mary Sparacello - Times-Picayune (excerpt)

Less than a week from Election Day, U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise, R-Jefferson, and his Democratic challenger, Jim Harlan of Lacombe, are airing new television advertising that sums up their 1st Congressional District candidacies with little mention of their opponents.

Scalise's new spot begins with the freshman congressman in front of a United States flag. He reiterates that he is pro-gun, pro-life and anti-taxes. He links himself to two prominent Republicans, saying he helped Gov. Bobby Jindal obtain $7 billion for hurricane recovery and flood protection and met with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the GOP vice presidential candidate, to develop a comprehensive national energy policy to create jobs and lower gasoline prices.

"I'm fighting for our conservative values," Scalise said in the 30-second spot.
