While term limits in the Legislature will ensure that there are many new faces in the Louisiana House next year, a number of the House members who can’t run for re-election are expected to seek Senate seats. How will they fare?
One has attempted the feat, and Rep. William Daniel was defeated in his bid to replace state Sen. Jay Dardenne, R-Baton Rouge, who was elected secretary of state last year.
Physician William Cassidy helped make the term-limited Daniel’s running for the Senate an issue. “I don’t think the public intended term limits to be a Lazy Susan of politicians seeking other offices,” Cassidy said in one forum before the December special election.
