Jefferson's Ongoing Legal Battle Could Be A Wild Card In Election by Scott Satchfield - WWL Channel 4 (CBS) (excerpt)
It's a showdown between a young newcomer on the political scene and a veteran lawmaker on Capitol Hill, as incumbent William Jefferson and challenger Helena Moreno charge toward the finish line -- the Nov. 4 runoff for the 2nd Congressional District seat.
Lee expects to see a rush of first-time voters, and folks who only vote once every four years -- when a Presidential race is on the ballot.
"It's a question of whether those first time or those infrequent voters will split and support her or Congressman Jefferson, or if she's able to penetrate some of Congressman Jefferson's support, especially in terms of attracting those voters who did not support her in the primary," he said.
While turnout will be important, the biggest storyline in the race is the ongoing legal trouble plaguing Jefferson -- who was indicted on corruption charges last year.
VIDEO: Watch the Story Political analyst Doctor Silas Lee says Moreno is the underdog, but voter turnout for the runoff will likely be much higher than it was for the primary, which makes things interesting.
