Story Archives: Slow recovery arouses emotions

Slow recovery arouses emotions
by JIM BEAM - The American Press (excerpt)

You sit down to watch the evening news, and the big story that day isn’t Iraq. It’s about the slow pace of hurricane recovery in Louisiana, and you can’t help but get emotional about the sad state of affairs.

First comes the embarrassment about your state being on the receiving end of more bad national coverage. Then you just get disgusted that more isn’t being done to help the displaced in Louisiana.

Democratic members of Congress are complaining about the slow pace of the controversial Louisiana Road Home housing program.

Apparently they aren’t aware it is being administered by a company selected by Gov. Kathleen Blanco, a member of their own party.

U.S. Reps. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., and Barney Frank, D-Mass., have joined a chorus of other Democrats who are complaining about the snail’s pace of the program. Their fiery comments came during congressional hearings Tuesday in Washington, D.C.
