Story Archives: The Fiscal Cost of Low-Skill Immigrants to the U.S. Taxpayer

The Fiscal Cost of Low-Skill Immigrants to the U.S. Taxpayer
by EDITOR - The Town Talk (excerpt)

The problems of illegal immigration are chronic and well-documented. They start with the threat to national security caused by ridiculously porous borders and balloon to include the stratospheric costs associated with this nation's willingness to tolerate and even facilitate criminal behavior.

American citizens pay the price every step of the way -- in anxiety, cash and generations of opportunities swallowed by this systemic failure.

That the nation's top leadership for decades has been unwilling to combat this situation speaks volumes about the clout of corrupt corporate leaders and equally corrupt politicians.

This plan does nothing to stem the costly flow of illegal immigration. A new Heritage Foundation report -- "The Fiscal Cost of Low-Skill Immigrants to the U.S. Taxpayer" -- makes a key point.

"On average," the report states, "low-skill immigrant households received $30,160 per household in immediate government benefits and services in 2004. By contrast, low-skill immigrant households paid only $10,573 in taxes."

They got nearly $3 in benefits and services for each dollar in taxes paid, for a total deficit of $89.1 billion.

Over the next 10 years, the report says, the cost to taxpayers will approach $1 trillion.

This is only the obvious cost. It is peanuts compared to what is at stake. America needs to face the facts. It's already paying the consequences.
