Gov. Bobby Jindal asked for the emergency declaration and began preparations for Ike even as the state wrestled with the manifold difficulties caused by Hurricane Gustav. “Hope for the best but prepare for the worst,” was the governor’s mantra, and it is a wise one.
Jindal urged Louisiana households to prepare as much as possible for another hurricane landfall, even though it remains very difficult to predict where Ike will land.
Louisiana has taken more than its share of hits lately. We don’t need Ike. But we agree with the governor that all Louisiana residents should do what they reasonably can to prepare for him, should he visit.
