State Treasurer John Kennedy is a native of rural Zachary, and he has built his identity as a plainspoken politician -- the Harvard and Oxford education aside -- in part on the effective use of Southern quips, delivered in his trademark twang.
So he enjoyed a laugh with reporters last week about the fact that some of his top staffers in his U.S. Senate campaign hail from the Northeast, including New York native Lenny Alcivar.
After filing his campaign paperwork with the secretary of state Friday, Kennedy said another Northern staffer had particularly enjoyed a four-day bus tour of the state.
"He saw a cow for the first time the other day," the treasurer joked.
