Can't We ALL Vote For Raises?

I thought it was really neat that our legislators could vote to give themselves a whopping raise, more than doubling their annual pay.

I mean, if that’s not democracy in action, what is? So I decided that I, too, should be able to vote myself a pay raise. I conferred with myself, and came up with a figure I could live with (but not double my current pay — I’m not greedy!). Then I voted, and the proposal passed 1-0. Elated at this victory, I passed on the result of the balloting to my editor.

He then informed me that he, too, voted and that the proposal had failed, 1-1. It seems some votes carry more weight than others …
