Jindal administration legislation aimed at increasing the powers of the state inspector general could be dead for this session.
A Senate-passed bill, which is pending action in the House, lost its lead sponsor and no one can step in to fill the role under normal legislative procedures, House Clerk Butch Speer said Monday.
The lead sponsor of Senate Bill 596 was former state Sen. Steve Scalise, R-Metairie, who was elected to the U.S. Congress on May 3. U.S. Rep. Scalise was elected to fill the remainder of Gov. Bobby Jindal’s congressional term.
