Jindal, Vitter, GOP Congressmen, Party: All Endorse Jenkins and Scalise
Governor Bobby Jindal, U.S. Senator David Vitter, and U.S. Representatives Jim McCrery, Rodney Alexander, and Charles Boustany have joined the Republican Party of Louisiana in officially endorsing Senator Steve Scalise and former State Representative Woody Jenkins to fill the open seats in the First and Sixth Congressional Districts.
Following the first closed primary in Louisiana in over 30 years, Republican voters have decided in overwhelming fashion that Steve Scalise and Woody Jenkins are the conservative leaders needed to represent the Republican Party in the special elections to take place on May 3rd. Woody Jenkins has promoted conservative values and principles in the state legislature for nearly three decades. He has received endorsements from The Club for Growth, FRC Action, The National Taxpayers Union, The National Rifle Association, and other leading conservative groups.
Governor Bobby Jindal said, “Steve Scalise and Woody Jenkins are strong conservatives who will be great advocates for Louisiana in the United States Congress.
At a time when our delegation is experiencing turnover, it is more important than ever that our congressional members speak with one voice and that we clearly communicate the needs of our state as we continue to rebuild from the storms of 2005 and work to revamp our economy and workforce development system to make Louisiana the best place in the world to raise a family and get a great career. I look forward to working with Steve and Woody to make these priorities a reality."
Roger F. Villere, Jr., Chairman of the Republican Party of Louisiana said, “In 28 years of service to the voters of the Baton Rouge area, Woody Jenkins has never once voted to raise taxes. He has been a champion of the pro-life movement, a leader in the defense of Second Amendment rights, and an advocate of family values.”
“As a state legislator, Steve Scalise has always been a conservative leader. He has stood by his principles to protect our families. Steve Scalise has stood for lower taxes, eliminating wasteful spending, and reforming our political system,” he said.
