Story Archives: Council Shake-Up Expected, Election Will Change Face Of Panel

Council Shake-Up Expected, Election Will Change Face Of Panel
by SCOTT DYER - Advocate (excerpt)

If (Mayor Kip) Holden really wants to get involved in the District 2 race, Addison said Holden should step down as mayor and run for the seat himself instead of “putting somebody else in my race.”

“The mayor had better stop worrying about other people’s races and start worrying about his own. If (former U.S. Rep. and former state Sen.) Cleo Fields gets in his race, he’s going to have all he can handle,” Addison said.

While opposing Addison, Holden is endorsing white Republicans Tassin and Walker, who have supported most of the mayor’s initiatives.

COMMENTARY: Fields has shown his vote getting prowess in the black community on many occasions. If he runs, Mayor Kip is toast! Cleo would clearly beat Kip in the black neighborhoods. The incumbent would have a very difficult time even making it to a runoff with a Republican.
