Jenkins, Cazayoux Top Runoffs (Republican Turnout Nearly Doubles Democrats)
by MARK BALLARD AND SARAH CHACKO - Advocate (excerpt)

Democrat Don Cazayoux, of New Roads, and Republican Woody Jenkins, of Baton Rouge, won their party primaries Saturday night in the race for the 6th U.S. Congressional District seat.

Jenkins said he will remind 6th District voters that the congressional seat has been held by a Republican for three decades and will make clear why it should remain in GOP hands. Cazayoux received endorsements from local and national unions, as well as several parish officials across the district.

The Louisiana Secretary of State Office’s said voter turnout was 14 percent — 59,370 votes were cast among the 424,615 voters eligible to participate in the 6th Congressional District race. Twenty percent of the registered Republicans voted and 11.5 percent of the Democrats voted.
