A St. Amant lawmaker suggested Monday that the Legislature may need to delay the July 1 deadline for filing initial disclosure reports required under new ethics laws.
Republican state Rep. Mert Smiley broached the idea as a House panel considered problems with laws approved during a February special session that may need fixing when the regular legislative session opens March 31.
On July 1, certain executive branch officials, legislators, their spouses, businesses and immediate family members must start filing reports disclosing contractual relationships with the state and its agencies with the Louisiana Board of Ethics.
