EDITORIAL: Come Back For A Debate (McCain In State For Fundraiser Today)
Times-Picayune (excerpt)

Sen. John McCain, fresh off his sweep of this week's Republican primaries, is making a stop today in Kenner to raise money for his presidential campaign.

The senator will likely be occupied with that effort, but this is also a perfect chance for him to endorse New Orleans as a debate site.

Unlike his Democratic foes, Sen. McCain has enough delegates to seal up the Republican Party's nomination. So, he's in a position to make a commitment for a debate here.

The Commission on Presidential Debates rejected the city and tried to make it seem like it was a favor to us because we're in the midst of recovery. But the commission's arguments are offbase and contradictory.

In an attempt to right the commission's wrong, Gov. Bobby Jindal and Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu sent a letter to Sen. McCain and Democratic Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton last week asking them to agree to debate here. All three of them ought to make that commitment.

NOTE: Senator McCain will be in the New Orleans area Friday afternoon for a fundraiser hosted by GOP Chairman Villere at the Airport Hilton in Kenner beginning at 2:30pm. For more information, please contact Murray Nelson at 504.717.7551.
