Story Archives: Frontier Airlines Eliminating B.R. Service ($1 Million Incentive Package?)

Frontier Airlines Eliminating B.R. Service ($1 Million Incentive Package?)
by Steve Clark - Daily Report (excerpt)

Discount air carrier Frontier Airlines is eliminating passenger service from its Denver hub to Baton Rouge, The Denver Post reports. Frontier introduced the service amid much fanfare just last May in what was considered a major coup for Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, which had been seeking a low-cost carrier for years to make the airport more competitive.

Baton Rouge lured Frontier service through a $1 million incentive package that included $400,000 for subsidizing two flights a day for a year and the rest to cover things like landing feeds, rent, flight crew accommodations, advertising, data system hookups and fueling fees.

Frontier is also eliminating service to West Palm Beach, Fla., shifting to seasonal service on flights to Fort Myers, Fla., and Jacksonville, Fla., and adding eight new routes in the West in smaller markets with less competition, reports the Post. Frontier was one of two discount carriers that pulled out of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Neither Baton Rouge airport officials nor Frontier Airlines officials was unavailable for comment.

LPNS COMMENTARY: More of your hard earned local tax dollars at work.

'Kip's Coup' Costs Citizens Cold Cash!

UPDATE:

Metro Airport’s last-ditch effort to keep Frontier fails
http://www.businessreport.com/archives/daily-report/2008/feb/15/449/

"Of a $1 million incentive package to lure Frontier to the city, about $423,000 remains in the city's general fund, Pickard says. Of the money spent, about 60% went back to the airport in the form of rent, landing fees and such and 40% to the airline."
