Jefferson described the exchange as fairly civil until he told agents that he did not deliver money to the vice president of Nigeria. Jefferson said the lead investigator in his case, FBI Agent Tim Thibault, then yelled at him: “Where is my God damn money? That was the FBI’s money.”
Thibault has testified that he did ask Jefferson about money but that he never yelled or swore at him and that the exchange was “cordial.” The agents never read him his rights because he wasn’t under arrest, Thibault said.
Jefferson severed the conversation after being shown a DVD of him putting a briefcase with $100,000 in his car. Jefferson then said that he thought he should stop talking.
