U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu spent part of last week disputing a report that she would be the target of political retribution from powerful U.S. Sen. Trent Lott because she failed to support a Mississippi appeals court judge for the federal bench.
Citing an unnamed Republican senator, the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call said Lott, a Mississippi Republican, was so angry that Landrieu tried to block — and later voted against — the nomination that he would “green light” any GOP attacks against the Democratic Louisiana senator in her re-election bid next year.
