Local delegates inspired at RNC

Fifth District U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, missed the convention four years ago but went to Tampa this week to continue his support for Romney. Alexander endorsed Romney in his failed bid for the nomination four years ago and stuck with Romney during this cycle.

"It's more exciting for me this time because I know both of the candidates personally," said Alexander, who had a small speaking part at the 2004 convention after switching to the Republican Party.

"I've had meetings and lunches with (Romney) and joined him for a campaign stop in Florida, and I served with (Ryan) on the Budget Committee for two years," he said. "I sense this convention is about solidifying support for the team more than in the past."
