Don Owen, veteran newsman, PSC member, dies

Don Owen, who overcame a teenage bout with polio to pioneer television in Shreveport and serve on the Public Service Commission, died Sunday from complications of recent pneumonia. He was 82.

The Beggs, Okla., native came to Shreveport in 1953 to work at the city's first television station, KSLA, for which he worked almost 32 years as an anchor and news director, building the staff from two people to a high of 36 and being named Associated Press Broadcaster of the Year for three consecutive years, 1963 to 1965.
