Future school bus drivers would be ineligible for tenure under a bill that won approval Tuesday night in the Louisiana House.
House Bill 293 was passed on a vote of 61-39. It now goes to the state Senate for consideration.
“Tell these people coming into the system to take personal responsibility,” state Rep. Joe Harrison, R-Napoleonville and sponsor of HB293, said when asking his colleagues for support for the concept of eliminating job protection for school bus drivers. Under HB293, those hired after July 1 would not be eligible for tenure.
