Baton Rouge -- Retiring district and appellate court judges should be able to buy the furniture the court bought for them during their time in office by paying the depreciated cost for the items, lawmakers said Tuesday. The Louisiana House voted 96-0 for an expanded House Bill 1010, which started out allowing judges of the five circuit courts of appeal to buy their office furnishings. Rep. Jeff Arnold, D-Algiers, the sponsor of the bill, expanded the measure with unanimous consent of the House to extend the furniture-buying privilege to the judges of the more than 40 district courts in the state. Arnold's bill now heads to the Senate for debate.
