As discussion heated up in the Louisiana House over Gov. Bobby Jindal's education reform bills, one important piece to the puzzle also came to light through questioning by Rep. Jeff Thompson, R-Bossier City.
After Thompson inquired how consent decrees or desegregation plans play into the governor's school choice plans and whether the governor would be willing to allocate state resources to help Louisiana school districts end longstanding consent decrees, Jindal said he would "absolutely" help districts move toward a unitary status declaration.
"Nothing in these bills trumps federal consent decrees or a desegregation order, but we would be willing to help districts," Jindal said.
