Louisiana’s top school board Monday asked state lawmakers for a virtual freeze on state aid to public schools, which would be the fourth year in a row in which spending per student remains the same.
The action was expected since Gov. Bobby Jindal’s proposed budget for the 2012 legislative session does the same.
Backers say the action is required because of state budget problems, including predictions of a nearly $900 million shortfall for the financial year that begins on July 1.
