Former sheriff arrested after disturbance

A former East Carroll Parish sheriff was arrested by Ouachita Parish deputies Wednesday evening accused of disturbing the peace and failing to fully pay for gasoline.

Dale Rinicker, 73, of 172 Betty Lane, West Monroe, was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center on charges of theft, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest. According to an arrest affidavit, deputies were called to a gas station on Well Road in reference to a man causing a disturbance inside the store and refusing to pay for gas.

When deputies arrived, they were told by customers walking out of the store that a man, later identified as Rinicker, was yelling at the store clerk. Deputies said they saw Rinicker yelling at the clerk and told him to leave. The report stated Rinicker refused to leave and started yelling at deputies. When deputies tried to walk Rinicker out of the store, they said he tried to pull his arm away. They said Rinicker fell to the ground as he tried to resist being escorted out by deputies.
