Defeated candidate backs top finisher in BESE runoff
Advocate (excerpt)

One of the unsuccessful candidates in a Baton Rouge race for a seat on Louisiana’s top school board endorsed the leader of the four-candidate primary field Thursday for the Nov. 19 runoff. Russell Armstrong, who finished third in the primary election, said he will encourage his supporters to back Carolyn Hill, who finished first Saturday.

The race is for the District 8 seat on the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. Linda Johnson, of Plaquemine, who holds the seat, did not seek re-election. Armstrong and Hill are Democrats from Baton Rouge.

Hill faces Jim Guillory, of Plaucheville, who has no party affiliation, in the runoff.
