EDITORIAL: Jindal has ideas on races for leadership

Jindal, if he is re-elected to a second term this fall as predicted, is exercising the authority governors traditionally have wielded with Louisiana's Legislature. He hopes to coax lawmakers to back leaders favorable to him, seeking to stack the deck for getting his agenda through a Legislature that showed a bit too much independence for the governor's taste in the past few sessions.

"We will be involved early in the process because it is critical that we have leadership in both chambers who will work with us to improve education, create jobs and continue to reform our state to make this the best place in the nation to raise a family and pursue a career," Jindal spokesman Kyle Plotkin said in a statement.

Jindal hasn't said yet who he will support for the leadership posts. But the jockeying definitely is under way among lawmakers seeking the jobs, and those legislators have been talking to Jindal's office, making their pitch.
