Early voting for the Oct. 20 election begins Saturday, two days earlier than in the past, as a result of a new state law.
(Registrar of voter's) offices will be open Saturday and then Monday through Oct. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. They are closed on Sunday.
The new law was intended to help boost voter participation in elections decidedly smaller than the one this month, said Dennis Ducote, an administrative manager with the Jefferson registrar of voters office. Its effect on this election, the biggest in four years, is up in the air.
