Story Archives: Students rally for education

Students rally for education
by Robbie Evans - News Star (excerpt)

College students from across the region converged Tuesday on the University of Louisiana at Monroe to show their opposition to state cuts in higher education.

ULM's Student Government Association sponsored a "Rally for Higher Education" as part of a coordinated effort across the state to urge college students to voice their opposition to state budget cuts in higher education. About 100 students from Louisiana Tech, ULM, Grambling State and Louisiana Delta Community College attended the rally. "We want our legislators to prioritize education," said Brook Sebren, president of ULM's Student Government Association. "A lot of students may not be involved politically, but they do need to know what's going on across the state.

"The future of our education is in the hands of state legislators, and we should be involved."
