The LSU Board of Supervisors may have violated state Open Meetings Law by privately discussing a controversial budget matter during lunch prior to its April board meeting, said the head of CABL.
The private, April 15 discussion came before a board meeting at which the LSU Board approved a preliminary budget without debate that some campuses argued took rolled-over dollars from the flagship LSU campus and the LSU Law Center to help avoid budget cuts at LSU medical centers in New Orleans and Shreveport.
State law requires public notice and agendas for public body meetings, which are defined as a majority of the public body being present. State law does make exceptions for “chance meetings or social gatherings.”
