Legislation filed Friday by two New Orleans-area lawmakers would consolidate the University of New Orleans and Southern University of New Orleans into a new entity starting in 2012. Senate Bill 183 by Sen. Conrad Appel, R-Metairie, would create the University of Louisiana at New Orleans, which would have two colleges with different admissions requirements and degree programs but only one accreditation. Students who need remedial education before enrolling in a four-year degree program would be served by a new branch campus of Delgado Community College that would be on the ULNO campus.
