Complete Tally Confirms Runoff (Dardenne 28%, Fayard 24%)
Advocate (excerpt)

State officials finished counting ballots Sunday and the complete but unofficial tally showed no surprises from what the partial results indicated.

Republican Secretary of State Jay Dardenne and Democratic political newcomer Caroline Fayard are headed to a Nov. 2 runoff in the lieutenant governor’s race. With all 3,877 precincts statewide reporting, Dardenne led the field of eight candidates with 180,915 or 28 percent of the statewide vote.

Fayard, a New Orleans lawyer who was supported by former President Bill Clinton, received 159,432 votes or 24 percent of the total vote. Country music singer Sammy Kershaw, a Republican from Lafayette, came in third with 126,160 votes or 19 percent.
